The totems, in nature, are more beautiful than they could be in a museum setting, so Peter believes.

Some totems were without color, perhaps by design or by weather. Other totems featured vibrant colors.

On a beach near Victoria, BC, the roots of whip kelp looked like some frightening sea creature.
