"The Rock" sculpture in Ketchikan, honors indigenous people, and european miners, loggers and bush pilots.

Ketchikan is touted as the salmon capital of the world. The salmon-packed Ketchikan Creek runs through the city center.

Hemlock trees cling to Ketchikan's mountainsides. A steep hike got us to the top of this mountain above the city.

After our steep hike, we've earned our refreshments and a new, posh, hotel and bar provided libations and comfort.

Back down at the port, Peter photographs boats, including this cute, shiny, whale-watching tourist boat.

Also moored at the port are hard-working fishing vessels.

And, alongside tourist boats and fishing vessels, are the monstrous cruise ships, straining against their rope moorings.
