diane My first heartbreak came at age 14, when my rebellious sister ran away from home. "Fire and Rain" got heavy radio play that summer, and I learned to play it on my guitar. At that young age, I didn't comprehend the song was about James Taylor's struggle with heroin addiction. I only knew that it was about how scared, alone and helpless you could feel. And that I wished my sister would come home. |

lisa An incredible story develops between two 18 year-old girls with 3-month Eurail passes. Our 45-year friendship started a couple years earlier, when her brother told me she was having a tough time at home. Knowing she was a huge Stones fan, I scored a poster of Ronny Wood, from the record store I worked at, which her brother gave her. |

danny In the 1990's I was deeply in love, and happily (or so I thought) married to a musican. I was the stepmom to his little boy. His group finally hit the big time, and life was amazing! We had it all. While he was on tour, I came across the lyrics to this song on a sheet of paper in our basement recording studio. "Promises Broken?" — " Befriended by the enemy?" What is this all about? Shortly thereafter, I found the "want ads" section of the newspaper with 1 BR apartments circled. He was planning to move out of our beautiful home we had made together. My incredible life was about to come crashing down around me. |

lucinda Lucinda and I met in Minneapolis, around 1993. After-show drinks led to an exchange of our mailing addresses, and countless letters. I photographed a few of her shows, and we'd meet up for dinner, drinks and music, whenever I was in her town (LA) or she in Minneapolis. Years later, after one of our late night lonely laments, I told her about my friend Tom, who was just her type. Trouble was, he lived in Minneapolis. As luck would have it, later that year, Tom moved to LA for a record company job, and I suggested he let me set him up with Lucinda. He brushed it off as another crazy Bonnie idea. A few weeks later, in his new town of LA, he goes to get a haircut, and who is sitting in the chair, also having her hair cut? Yes. Lucinda. He walks over and introduces himself and says "we have a mutual friend: Bonnie". They got to talking, then more than talking. They fell head-over-tea kettle, got married and will live happily ever after. This song (this incredible album) still shoots through my entire being. |

mom Oh how my mom loved opera! Especially "The King of the High C's," Luciano Pavorotti! When the Metropolitan Opera aired their Saturday matinee broadcasts, she would crank that stereo up to 11! I didn't see what all the fuss was about, but there was definitely magic in this music in it's ability to make her so happy. |

brenda I met Brenda the very day our family moved in across the street from her. We were both 5-years old, and became inseparable. Several years later, my beloved bestie moved from our little cul-de-sac to a spectacular ranch in Aspen, Colorado. We said our tearful goodbyes, promising to write every few weeks, which we did (and still do.) The next summer, accompanied by her Mom, little 12-year old me took my first two airplane rides to visit Brenda in Aspen. We had the time of our lives that summer! On my flight home, changing planes, it was discovered that I was too young to fly solo, and needed a guardian to board the next plane. John Denver and his wife Annie (Aspen residents, also flying to Minneapolis) stepped up to be my flight saviors. They seated me with them in First Class, riding shotgun to John's guitars. They safely turned me over to my family, when we landed. "Rocky Mountain High" transports me to my First Bestie and that perfect summer.
