Anyone lucky enough to celebrate Thanksgiving at the Paulson home knows, there is no finer party. Katie, Ray and many guest contributors prepare great mounds of spectacular food, and the vibe is loving, sassy, joyous and comical; a perfect holiday. In 2019, hoping to contribute, I consulted another extraordinary chef and hostess, Elena Schaust. Elena wisely forbade me from bringing food items, suggesting instead that I create an art project. She told me that three turkeys were being prepared for the feast and that I could best contribute by writing biographies for the turkeys. |
Bingo! I accepted the mission but chose to write obituaries rather than biographies. Last year, circumstances were such that the obits and accompanying graphics were not presented at the party. This year, as suggested by Elena again, the project has been resurrected. Since we, the lucky Paulson-party attendees, cannot be together in the flesh, I'll share my project digitally. At your leisure, click through this thanksgiving-themed bit of buffoonery. If it makes you smile, then I'll have succeeded in a way I never could if I shared food with you — nothing I could cook would ever produce a smile. — Peter Bretl |
